These paintings represent attempts to capture my unconscious images and thoughts, painted without planning or judgment - my “waking dreams.”
Because I don’t plan, think or judge while painting, I don’t worry about whether the images are "accurate" representations of reality or whether the objects and designs make sense together in a single composition. The results sometimes surprise even me.
As described by an artist friend, the paintings “are filled with vivid colors and imagery…suggest[ing] complex themes beyond the observable world”.
I started painting in the '90s with The Painting Experience when my two sons were young. Inspired by my experience there, I decided to continue painting on my own. All of the paintings are tempera on paper.
I have no training as an artist and don’t use that label for myself. I am a retired tax attorney and, with my husband, started, developed and eventually sold a company managing charitable remainder trusts. I started painting as an antidote and creative outlet for my otherwise stressful and analytical mental life.
